The letter:
My Ernie dear,
I have just a few moments of time before tea, & so hasten to send you a few lines. — It is so quiet here without you all, the whole place seems to have gone to sleep, & one misses you terribly. — I wonder how your manoeuvres went off to-day, I have been so thinking of you, & hope it was not so cold & wet as here. Before breakfast it was still fine, so we took a nice ride. —
The Erbachs left yesterday after tea, & then I drove Wilhelmino into the poneycarriage with the two little Jucker, & H. von Riedesel sat behind on the little seat; I expected him to flie down at every jerk, but we arrived alright, with him on behind, again. — Later I am going to drive them 4 in hand, as Victoria does not care about going out. — The wolves are making a filthy row, I believe they are fighting. Gretchen & I burnt on at the table this morning, it hurts one's eyes only so much, which is a nuisance. — I shall write to Aunt Beatrice & enquire, whether we may take Gelder?, as I must ask about the two maids. —
Take care of yourself, my Darling, & do not sit up too late at night if you can help. — Now Goodbye & God bless you. Ever your very loving Alix.
[P. S.] Messages to the Gentlemen. — Many tender kisses. I played duet with Victoria after luncheon. —
Above: Alix.
Above: Ernst.
