Dearest Nicky,
So many thanks for your dear letter, which gave me great pleasure. It was so kind of you to remember the old Toads Birth Day. —

Yes, it does seem a long time ago, since we were at Petersburg!

Ella told us about Petioucha's engagement & I am sure you must be very glad.

The heat here is tremendous & so we usually go out at 7½ in the morning, and in the afternoon on the Rhein.
